I don't write from a neutral place... I write from who I am.
I am a "physical chemist" by training and a researcher by profession. I work with science, materials, devices, and data, in a field where rigor is a minimum requirement and doubt is ever-present. Perhaps that is why I write as I do: with attention to detail, resistance to easy answers, and some distrust of absolute certainties.
For years, this perspective has found expression primarily in gastronomy, wine, and travel. On My Palate It was the space where I began to write, always starting from lived experience and never from lists or classifications. For me, this has always been a way of understanding the world, culturally, socially, and even politically.
Over time, this perspective broadened. Books, music, cinema, and theatre came along. Questions about the present, politics, and how we live together arose. Family and daily life also came into play, almost always as a discreet presence, never as an exhibition.
Politically, I don't identify with rigid trenches. I have one foot on the left, the other closer to the right, and a genuine curiosity for people and ideas that think well, even when they think differently from me. I identify with values of social justice and care, but I admire the lucidity, sense of responsibility, and realism that I find in many right-wing thinkers and politicians. I write without party loyalties and without feigned neutrality.
At the end of 2024, a health problem forced me to stop. To slow down. To rethink priorities, rhythms, and even the way I write. In 2025, with the announcement of the closure of the SAPO Blogs platform, it became clear that it made sense to start again, not from scratch, but in a more conscious way. Thus, it was born. In My Eyes.
Here, the palate remains present, but it is no longer alone. This is a space where we write about travel, hotels, restaurants, and wine, but also about books, music, cinema, theater, politics, and family. Not as a guide, not as a definitive opinion, but as an exercise in attentiveness.
There's also football. I'm a Vitória Sport Clube supporter from Guimarães. Not by chance, but because of my identity. I like football as a narrative, a sense of belonging, and popular culture, and I deeply distrust those who root for whoever wins and those who reach easy consensus, both on and off the field.
My greatest pride, and without a doubt, the greatest luck of my life is the family I have. Clarisse as a pillar of intelligence, a source of thought and balance. Bia as a joyful demand, with an open laugh and unexpected tenderness. Gui as a rare example of a pure heart, wise words spoken without calculation, and unconditional love. I don't write *about* them, but I always write from their perspective.
This website doesn't aim to please everyone, nor to occupy a comfortable place. It simply aims to be honest from the perspective of the writer. There are things that aren't shown, but that can be seen. It is in this space that I try to write.
